Scripture to Memorize: John 15:1
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
Day 1 Read: John 15:6
6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
Reflect: What is the warning? What brings about the punishment Jesus describes?
Consider: “Thrown” is from the Greek word ballo and is the same word used in Matthew 4:18 to describe fishing nets being cast into the water. The idea is that branches not abiding in Christ are not merely tossed aside, but deliberately flung as far away as possible.
Respond: What are the biggest temptations you face that pull you away from abiding in Jesus? Be honest about those struggles and confess them to God today. Acknowledge your need for His strength and your desire to remain in Him.
