Day 2 Read: 2 Timothy 1:4-5
As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
Reflect: In verse 5, Paul affirms Timothy’s “sincere faith.” What characterizes a sincere faith? Describe the elements of faith that you consider essential for the next generation to understand.
Consider: Paul remembered Timothy’s tears on their last parting, possibly at Paul’s second Roman arrest. In this letter he would ask Timothy to join him in Rome (cf. 4:9, 21). Paul had longed for Timothy’s companionship which was such a joy to him. Even the great apostle at times became lonely, discouraged, and in need of support from fellow Christians.
Respond: What are some things we can do to remind ourselves to take an active role in the faith journeys of our family members and friends?
