Day 3 Read: 2 Timothy 1:6-7
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Reflect: What encouragement does Paul offer Timothy?
Consider: “Of power” (dunemeos). Found in all the Pauline Epistles except Philemon. In Pastorals only here, ver. 8, and ch. 3:5. Not used by our writer in the sense of working miracles, which it sometimes has in Paul. Here, the power to overcome all obstacles and to face all dangers. It is closely linked with the sense of boldness.
Reflect: Take a few moments to think back through the communities of faith of which you’ve been a part. In those experiences, was faith passed down to a new generation? Why is it important to affirm the spiritual gifts and callings of your loved ones? What impact does this have on their lives and their faith?
