Day 5 Read: Galatians 3:14
so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.
Reflect: How does Jesus solve the problem that no one can earn right standing with God?
Consider: Here Paul summarized in a concentrated conclusion the entire train of thought he had developed thus far in chap. 3. The argument he had just concluded concerning the curse and the cross is here recapitulated in two purpose clauses that point to the benefits secured by Christ’s atoning death: (1) that the blessing of Abraham might be extended to the Gentiles through Christ and (2) that the promise of the Spirit might be bestowed by faith.4
Respond: What might you say to someone who says, “It doesn’t matter so much what you have faith in, or what God you believe in. What matters is that you have faith and are sincere in what you believe?” What effect does Jesus’ work on the cross have on your life? Do you think it’s possible for it to have a greater effect? Why or why not?
