Day 3 Read: John 15:7
7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
Reflect: What promise is given by Jesus in this verse? What are the conditions?
Consider: In contrast with verse 6, the emphasis in these verses is positive: remain with Jesus and bear much fruit. Effective prayer is based on faith in Christ and on His words remaining in believers. Christ’s words condition and control such a believer’s mind so that his prayers conform to the Father’s will. Since his prayer is in accord with God’s will, the results are certain—it will be given you (1 John 5:14–15).
Respond: “Remain in me”, “love”, and “bearing fruit” are all phrases repeated several times in this passage. What are some of the relationships between these words? What do you learn about your role as a Christ follower from this passage?
