Day 2 Read: Psalm 37:11
But the meek shall inherit the land
and delight themselves in abundant peace.
Reflect: Why must humility mark those who will receive God’s eternal blessings?
Consider: Verse 11a, as translated by the Septuagint, appears in Matthew 5:5. Verse 11b has the additional promise, “They will delight themselves in a great shalom” (see comment on “peace” in 29:11), a phrase that succinctly summarizes all the benefits, material and spiritual, enjoyed by those who trust in the Lord.
Respond: Describe the attitude and actions of a person who is humble, or gentle, in relationship to God. A person who is not?
How is the land believers will inherit described here? Looking at the world today, does this verse appear to be a contradiction of the facts? How so? How would you explain this to someone? The primary responsibility of a shepherd is to find adequate watering. Jesus promises to lead us to a place where our thirst is quenched forever. How does this verse relate to Matthew 5:4?
