Day 4 Read: 1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Reflect: What did John mean when he wrote that there was no darkness in God? Why is walking in darkness and having fellowship with God impossible?
Consider: “God is Light” There is no ARTICLE. This is emphasizing the revelatory and ethical aspects of God’s nature. “in Him there is no darkness at all” This is a DOUBLE NEGATIVE for emphasis. It is an assertion of the unchanging holy character of God.4
Respond: According to verses 6-7, what are some benefits of walking in the light? What other benefits can you think of that aren’t listed here?
